Innovation in Fashion

Fashion – one of the largest, multi-billion-dollar industry has always been touched by technology and innovation. While some of us choose embroidery over the digital prints, some of us go for ready to wear clothes and some do it traditionally – customization or what you call tailor made.

Here are some of the innovations that has helped us develop our product…

Digital Printing

With this, prints are applied to fabrics with printers, in return saving water usage by 95 percent, reduction of energy by 75 percent and minimizing textile waste. This technique is used by almost all the big fashion houses around the globe.

Smart Tailoring

Created by Indian designer Siddhartha Upadhyaya, Smart tailoring or Direct Panel on Loom technology increases fabric efficiency by 15 percent and a reduction in lead time by 50 percent and this technology is used to manufacture high end garments.

3D Printing Technology

Most of the designers today at their fashion shows are showcasing pieces made by a 3D printer. Most of them ranging in the Haute Couture level as a 3D printer is capable of being true to measurements. Designer Iris Van Herpen first used this technology for her Spring/ Summer 2010 haute couture line. The only drawback would be the material used. 3D printer with fabrics as material is not a far off thing. Soon people might even start printing their own clothes at their home.
